Running to work along the river in Oxford - beautiful!

Start Running to Work – Accept No Excuses!

Hi! I’m Ben and I have run to work nearly every day for 4 years. I went from zero miles to a daily run there-and-back, and I want to help you get started too! If I’m successful, today is the day you will decide to start running to work. So congratulations on this first step to improve your lifestyle, fitness, and happiness!

This blog has everything you need to help you get started running to work. You can read a step-by-step guide on preparing to run to work, guidance on gear and kit based on personal experience, and plenty of advice to help you get started with your daily run commute.

You are joining a worldwide community of people who run to work, either daily or a few times a week, and who thoroughly enjoy the benefits of doing so! Maybe you’ve decided to run to work because of suggestions from friends or family, or perhaps you’ve found an enthusiasm for running thanks to a popular running book like “Born to Run” by Christopher McDougall or “Ultramarathon Man” by Dean Karnazes. Whatever your reason, millions of people run to work, and I’m here to help you get started on the road to run commuting.

I know that there’s a lot of content and information available already about how to get started as a runner, but very few places seem to put this into the context of running to work and building your runs into your daily workday routine. I lay out the guidance you need to get started in an easy to understand, step-by-step process so you can hit the streets as soon as possible.

First, you’ll need to learn more about what’s involved in running to work. Depending on your circumstances, it can be a big move and takes a non-trivial amount of planning and preparation. But running to work can be an excellent way to fit exercise and cardio into your daily routine without dedicating much time to working out, and it really is worth a look.

After that, you need to consider whether running to work is right for you and your employer. The required preparation can vary a ton just based on the kind of job you have! Some employers make life really easier for aspiring run commuters, while others have no interest or may actively discourage it… But we don’t need to let that stop us! 😉

Overall, running to work is a fantastic way to improve your life and I can’t recommend it highly enough. You’ll enjoy a whole host of benefits, from the obvious to the unexpected: check out my page on benefits of running to work for a whole bunch of information!
